Many different types of animals across the country and world are being exploited in research facilities and cosmetics companies. In the article, Save the Animals: Stop Animal Testing by Lone Start College, it explains that, "Animals feel pain in many of the same ways that humans do, in fact, their reactions to pain are virtually identical to humans". The two commonly used toxicity test are the Draize test and the LD50 test, which both are known for the intense pain and suffering that it inflicts upon to the animals.

In the process of the Draize test, a substance or product that is being tested is placed in the eyes of an animal--generally rabbits are used for this test--then the animals is monitored for damage to the cornea and other tissues in and near the eye, stated in the article Save the Animals: Stop Animal Testing. This test is excruciatingly painful for the animals that are being experimented on. It can cause blindness, scarring, and death are generally the end result of the experiment. According to the article, "The Draize test has been criticized by many individuals for being unreliable and a needless waste of animal life".

The LD50 test is used to test the dosage of a substance that is necessary to cause death in fifty percent of the animal subjects within a certain amount of time, stated from the article, Save the Animals: Stop Animal Testing. To conduct the LD50 test, researchers hook the animals up to tubes that pump enormous amount of the test product into their stomachs until they die. This specific test is extremely painful for animals to endure because their death can take days or even weeks. The LD50 test can cause animals to suffer from vomiting, diarrhea, paralysis, convulsion, and internal bleeding.
